About The ARK

Our Beliefs

We are a Christian Church and part of the two Church of Scotland churches in Newmains. We are a charismatic, evangelical fellowship which is keen to listen to the community and to evolve our style of worship and the services we provide in order to be relevant.

What we look like

Our main worship event of the week takes place on a Tuesday evening in Coltness Memorial Church, Newmains from 6-7.30pm. Most weeks, there are separate activities for children and adults but both follow the same theme. Children aged 5-12 take part in a range of activities including crafts, games and discussion groups for the first hour and then join together for a corporate worship time which makes use of multimedia and creative arts. Our adult group, OASIS, meets at the same time in another part of the building.

We offer prayer /ministry for both adults and children on a weekly basis and encourage all to hear from God for themselves.

What else do we do?

OASIS: Oasis is our adult group which meets at the same time as ARK. This group grew from an Alpha Course a number of years ago and has more than doubled in number since then. It is a very informal group and folks are encouraged to grow in faith together. On a typical Tuesday there will be tea/coffee and at least biscuits if not cakes! They pray together and then take part in discussion surrounding the topic for the evening. Because the topic is the same as the one the children are working on, those OASIS members with children in ARK have a ready made conversation starter for the way home since they have both been thinking about the same thing.
SCHOOL GROUPS: We are involved with two of the local Primary schools and provide after school and school time groups at their request. In the past we have offered puppet groups, music and bereavement support.

Our Plans

We have plans to expand the service we offer to the community. A community audit revealed that there was a dearth of provision for children and young people in the area. We want to run a network of activities for children and young people in the local community as well as offering support to families in whatever way is appropriate. We are actively pursuing funding for this at the moment and hope to have our new project started before the end of the year.
